TACT is not a magician’s trick it’s a memorized social skill using normal phrasing technique or style of interacting with others. This to me is - and should be beyond simple importance to any of us, tact is “diplomacy” we all need to espouse more! Did you ever listen to anyone telling their story? And do you suppose people really talk the way they do when the conversation is of the upmost importance? What you don’t say is just as important as what you do - we all have to take personal responsibility. I mean really everyone has their own way of talking. Now, because of who we are, I do alter mine a little while trying to use some tact… Like for real, when I was filing for this and it said on the DOJ form to be brief, I did two short paragraphs tops. Not because I didn’t have more to say: I was outlining my complaint. Just like when freelance writing for magazines or other publications; they all usually have writer guidelines. The reason I follow them is my way of getting my words read, articles published or other results. There are people who want to get their story out so bad that it becomes an outpouring the first opportunity they get!
Not with me though, only because I know it’s those first moments that will or won’t lead to another. To tell your full story, someone has to listen to you without being overwhelmed. We all use diplomacy in our daily lives, these words here are just example words: almost synonymous. My point is that we must be everything - like our psychology, all as part of our social science skills. Did I just use the word psychology in our context here? First off when writing or speaking about anything I have to perceive and adhere closely to my intended audience’s states. That doesn’t mean anyone who can potentially read what I write. Here in this forum my intentions are in our methods to solutions. That while taking into consideration all the subtle nuances involved; I’m mostly concerned with your interpretations. This is because how we go about everything we do in regular life involve getting favorable results. Somehow or way this includes tact in our usage of language, visuals, psychology, persona. The listener is the most important factor to this legal equation when all is taken into account.
“Short and brief” is easiest for me since I’ve always found the words to say while complying to most complaint and submission form guidelines. One monthly magazine column I wrote required a dozen short & brief reviews and so that’s what I gave them. Although I received hundreds of submissions a month because “EVERYONE” has so much to say! Getting heard then obviously becomes the battle for a chance slot. Yes, short and brief - has to grab them, I know – my attention has to be grabbed quick too. So for others I try to do the same that’s what I think that most people overlook – there are humans on the other ends of your communications. How many good reviews do you suppose I couldn’t get to? Now think about complaint filing lines – how swamped they have to be? Many people, there just is no time for. How many complaints are filed at your local or centralized fed office? You want to be the one they make time for? Good luck or be best prepared: your choice.
You know, I don’t know how much press material I’ve read but I know what works for me in a press letter? Sanity, lucidity, truth, believability; You know what doesn’t? “Over-editorialization!” Even when spoken and sometimes especially then. We’re all playing a game and but to us it isn’t a game at all… Do you think there’s a choice to win or lose? Have you tried to tell your story? Tact is not a substitute word or acronym for trick. It’s a learned style or technique that’s all your own; a chance to be convincing…

As I write here people and just like all of our spoken words Diplomacy should always be in the back of your mind. We are speaking to other people who we need to understand things the way we want them to. This is not trickery, it's communication... |
